Designer Eligibility

The Edit – How to Apply

The Edit is a returning category of RUNWAY, giving all FTT students—across every level of the program—the opportunity to showcase their creativity on stage. Unlike the senior or student collections, The Edit highlights individual looks in a curated format, providing more space for emerging designers to gain professional runway experience.

What is The Edit?

  • A juried selection of 10 designers

  • Each designer presents one completed look on the RUNWAY stage

  • Featured in the April 26, 2026 show alongside senior and student collections

This year, designs for The Edit must reflect our show’s focus: Intersectional Identity. Your look should explore how identity, culture, or lived experience shapes your design perspective.

Application Guidelines

Submission Deadline: April 10, 2026 at 4:00 PM
📍 Drop-off Location: TECH 303

Requirements:

  • One fully completed look (per designer)

  • Photos of your model wearing the look (front and back)

  • 200-word write-up explaining your design concept and how it reflects Intersectional Identity

  • Garment delivered in a garment bag clearly labeled with your name and email

  • Include printed copies of your photos and write-up with your submission

Selection Process

  • All submissions will be reviewed by FTT faculty

  • 10 designers will be chosen for inclusion in The Edit

  • Selected designers will also be eligible for special awards during the show

Why Apply?

The Edit is your chance to:

  • Gain professional experience preparing a garment for the runway

  • Share your vision with peers, faculty, and industry guests

What can I expect if I make it into RUNWAY?

Designers accepted into RUNWAY will be part of a newly restructured team format this year. Instead of individual coordinators, section managers will oversee different aspects of the show. As a senior designer, you will be required to collaborate closely with these RUNWAY managers to meet all deadlines and ensure the best possible presentation of your collection on the runway.

The section managers will assist with various logistical elements, including models, hair, makeup, and accessories, to ensure these elements complement your collection. All RUNWAY designers will also have access to professional photos, both on and off the catwalk.

This team-based approach will provide enhanced support to help you bring your creative vision to life while adhering to the necessary timelines and production standards.
