Student Collection – How to Apply​

Student Collection is a juried category of RUNWAY, offering emerging designers the opportunity to present a cohesive body of work on stage. Unlike The Edit, which highlights a single look, Student Collections showcase multi-look collections that reflect a unified concept, strong design development, and technical execution. Only four student collections will be accepted into RUNWAY 2026.

What is Student Collection?​

• A juried selection of 4 designers  

• Each selected designer presents a cohesive multi-look collection on the RUNWAY stage  

• Featured in the April 26, 2026 show alongside senior designers and The Edit  

• Collections must reflect our show’s focus: Amplify  

 

Your collection should explore what it means to amplify — a voice, a perspective, a community, a material, a craft, a message, or an idea. Consider how your work elevates something meaningful. How does your design practice expand visibility, strengthen presence, or increase impact through concept, construction, and presentation?  

 

Application Guidelines​

Submission Deadline: April 10, 2026 at 4:00 PM  
Drop-off Location: TECH 303  

 

Requirements  

• One fully completed, original collection (minimum 4 looks)  

• All garments must be fully designed and constructed by the student designer  

• Looks must be entirely original and may not be styled with garments or pieces not created by the designer  

• Photos of each look worn by a model (front and back views)  

• In-progress documentation showing design development, construction process, fittings, and technical progress  

• 200-word written statement explaining your collection concept and how it reflects Amplify  

• All garments delivered in garment bags clearly labeled with your name and email  

• Printed copies of photos, in-progress documentation, and written statement included with submission  

 

Selection Process

• ​​All submissions will be reviewed by FTT faculty  

• Four collections will be selected for inclusion in RUNWAY 2026  

• Selection will be based on originality, craftsmanship, cohesion, technical execution, and interpretation of the Amplify theme  

• Selected designers will be eligible for special awards during the show

What can I expect if I make it into RUNWAY?  

Designers accepted into the Student Collection category will be part of our newly restructured team format. Instead of individual coordinators, section managers will oversee different aspects of the show. As a Student Collection designer, you will be required to collaborate closely with these RUNWAY managers to meet all deadlines and ensure the strongest possible presentation of your collection on stage.  

Section managers will assist with key logistical elements including model coordination, hair, makeup, styling direction, and accessories to ensure these components align with and enhance your collection. While your garments must be entirely original and self-constructed, final runway styling will be coordinated in collaboration with the production team to maintain overall show cohesion.

All RUNWAY designers will receive access to professional photography, including both runway and backstage documentation.

This team-based structure is designed to provide support while maintaining professional standards and timelines. Designers are expected to be responsive, prepared, and proactive throughout the production process. Acceptance into Student Collection means committing to the full execution of your vision within the collaborative framework of RUNWAY 2026.
